Although poker looks like a very inert physical activity, it actually strains you body and mind more than most people realize. Especially to beginners and players who are playing new games or new stakes, or players trying new, demanding, styles of play will fatigue more quickly than they think. That's why it's important, especially early, to moderate your play. Sometimes you will find it better to moderate based on time, other times the action may dictate. A lot of players say, "keep playing as long as the conditions at the table are good for winning money", however, even if the conditions at the table stay 100% the same, your condition may be steadily declining. Mental pressure builds toxins in your system, stress builds toxins in your system, bad beats build toxins, winning and losing releases adrenalin which also causes numerous physical and emotional changes in your body and mind. These toxins erode your ability to focus and concentrate. And they erode your convictions, your commitment to only play your game, and no other without deviation. They chip at your ability to play performance poker.
