| What is Gametime + or PA HUD? |
© 2006,2007 |
These two programs are used in conjunction with Poker Tracker to display stats about a player, next to the players name at your poker table. Gametime + is free and PA HUD costs some money, but both are used to deliver the information you need about a player, on the fly. These programs are great for the multi-tabling player.
We can't put everything on here because it's all in the book. Publishers are picky about giving away the store... it sucks..:

What do all these percentages mean (VP$IP, PFR)?
The first time I opened PT and Gametime +, I could see the quantity of information available to me, I just didn't know how to use it. The best thing I did was download a free program called Pokerstove, at www.pokerstove.com. This is a great program that has many uses outside of poker tracker, such as seeing win% and equity% for two different hands, or your hand vs a range of hands. It's useful for Poker Tracker because it will identify what 8% of hands actually means. For example, your opponent raises 14% of his hands preflop, what does that mean to you? Pokerstove will tell you the top 14% of starting hands is: 77+,A7s+,K9s+,QTs+,JTs,ATo+,KJo+,QJo. This is obviously not his exact preflop raising range, since everyone is different, but it gives you a good idea of what he is likely to be holding. Now lets say you have AKs. Pokerstove would tell you, that you are a 62% to 38% favorite preflop to this range. I suggest you download this program and experiment with different percentages and different ranges, until you have a better understanding of starting hand ranges and the percentages that correspond to them.
(Keep in mind that cold decks and card rushes happen to your opponents as well, so the more hands you have recorded on a player the more accurate these percentages will be)
My HUD Display:
I use Poker Office, which is exactly the same as Poker Tracker, but the HUD program is built in - you don't need another program like Gametime + or PA HUD to display your statistics on the poker table. I have two rows of 4 statistics for each opponent. They are:
# of hands: This is the only way to determine if your statistics on this player are accurate enough. I like at least 50-100 hands recorded before I make a "read".
VP$IP: How loose or tight they are preflop
PFR: What range of hands are they raising?
AF Total: How aggressive are they postflop? (Some people like to display AF flop, AF turn, AF river, to see more complex betting patterns.)
C-Bet%: How often do they make a continuation bet after raising preflop?
Flop-Turn%: How often do they call bets on the flop (Indicator of how often your c-bets will work)
Showdown when saw flop%: How loose they are postflop.
Won $ at Showdown %: When they do go to showdown, is it with a good hand or not?
If someone is relatively tight aggressive, (lets say vp$ip is 17 and pfr is 7) and they ALWAYS c-bet the flop, I will call the preflop raise in situations where I believe it will most likely be heads up, in hopes of check/raising a flop that looks to have missed him. If he calls, I mostly give up on the turn, unless I improve.
Keep in mind that programs which try to find betting patterns of a player, are only so good. Just because a player is 60/25 (vp$ip/pfr), doesn't mean he has to have rags every time; he could of got lucky and got dealt AA this hand.
