Summary ALLOWS U.S. PLAYERS
Bodog
is its own network. It hosts an average of 18,000 – 22,000 players/day. Gameplay is pretty “bottom heavy” with lots of low buyin tables and SnG's. Table availability thins out as you rise in stakes. One major draw of
Bodog
is the BAD BEAT JACKPOT tables. If you catch a qualifying hand (quad 8's or better) and lose the hand you will win HUGE. The bad beat jackpots quickly grow to hundreds of thousands of dollars. Everyone playing at a bad beat table gets a share of the jackpot. It's a pretty cool deal. Bodog shares traffic with VegasPoker247. Keep reading to find out how to make money on
Bodog
.
Software
The software is run of the mill in terms of bells and whistles, but very reliable and effective. You can tile or cascade multiple tables, change backgrounds, display bet amounts, select your preferred seat and use 4 color decks. There is a rabbit cam (for those who like to see what might have been). Other features include downloading different skins, player search, instant hand history or download a hand history, personalized player images, player notes, and quick keys you can use if you want to forgo the mouse.
Traffic
18,000 – 22,000 players mostly grouped below 2/4 NL on ring tables and $20 MTT's and SnG's. Shares traffic with VegasPoker247.
Ring Games and Competition
When it comes to ring games on
Bodog
6 Max is the most popular form of play. At all levels of play 6 Max tables greatly outnumber 9 player (full) tables. With ring games you will be hard pressed to find more than 1 full 6 Max table at 2/4 and above. .5/1 and ½ will have a few more options. And .25/.50 down tables are readily available, all the way down to .05/.10 micro tables. Average pot sizes (and thus table tightness) is looser at the top (2/4) and at the bottom. Between those stakes you'll be hard pressed to find average pot sizes over 20x BB. At the higher stakes (due to the small pool of players) you'll often find yourself playing against familiar faces, so take good notes that you can use in the future.
Anywhere above micro stakes monitoring table statistics and choosing tables wisely will be critical for success. Remember, when playing 6 Max you pay 40% more in blinds to play the table, so you'll leak more chips to the blinds. The key is to make sure the average pot sizes make it worthwhile when you win.
Tournaments and Competition
Can you say Freeloader (I mean freeroller)?
Bodog
has plenty of freeroll. So, if you're broke you have something to do, I guess. But, their tournaments don't compare with major tourney sites like PokerStars. They have very few Real Money tournaments, the ones they ones they have don't carry that many players (for instance a Sunday 5 pm $5/.50 MTT with only 127 players), and they actually play rather tight. There aren't many guaranteed prize pool tourneys and little if any overlay (where the guarantee is greater than the actual prize pool).
How to Make Money on Bodog
At micro stakes play 19 hand (Performance Poker – No Limit!) tactics on multiple full 9 player tables and you can't lose. At mid level tables the average pot size is generally too low to be worthwhile. If you are selective or have a reasonable game for small average pots then have at it. But, you should remember AOK's 90/10 and Contested Pot rules and understand that small average pot sizes mean little chance at decent success – especially on 6 max tables. I don't know why you would play MTT's on Bodog. Sometimes small sites mean really weak MTT competition or big overlays. On Bodog you're facing average competition, small prize pools and not much overlay (if any). So, it's probably best to just pass it by and play on a better MTT site. The blind structure is good for patient play and having reasonable stacks to the blinds and antes. So, if you do play MTT's you'll have a little more room than some other sites to get involved in pots and not live by the push and die by the push. Standard Harrington on Holdem Strategies will work fine in this instance.
